Balinese jungle oasis with incredible river views and stunning sunsets.
When I found out my long time instafriend Sara was going to be in Ubud the same time as me, I immediately suggested we go on a little retreat outside of the main town. Kupu Kupu Barong Villas and Tree Spa was the perfect jungle getaway for a few days to unwind amongst Bali’s lush jungles and rushing rivers.
We spent a few days catching up and chatting about our travels (she just came from a hectic India trip!), how different our lives are now compared to a year ago (we both left comfy lives in NYC to pursue travel dreams) and how Bali might be the perfect place to relocate to!Located in the Ayung Valley, I was most impressed with the views and seclusion offered by the property. Their 39 private villas with river views capture the essence of Balinese living and architecture, each with thatched roofs and a pool for ultimate relaxation. As I walked around the property, I felt like I was in a lush jungle oasis, with palm trees, colorful flowers and butterflies everywhere! One of my favorite parts of our stay was my massage at their Mango Tree Spa by L’Occitane. Already a huge fan of their natural beauty products, I had high expectations for my day of pampering. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Imagine getting a massage overlooking rice terraces with a soft breeze and the sound of the river underneath. On top of that, Balinese massages are just so relaxing! With the combination of various techniques including acupressure, gentle stretches, reflexology and aromatherapy, I felt like I was floating on top of rice paddies (which I kind of was!) The other magical part about staying in the middle of a jungle oasis were the amazing sunsets with uninterrupted views. I heard Bali had stunning sunsets, but these colors exceeded my expectations! One night before dinner at their on site La View restaurant, the sky shifted from blue to orange to pink to purple—complete with tropical-looking, green silhouettes in the foreground. It was almost too perfect. While we were taking this infinity pool shot, we noticed a lovely dinner setup with flower petals lining the pathway (you know it’s special when there are flower petals involved!) Shortly after, a couple showed up for their romantic dinner and were taking photos with their SLR. I offered to take a few shots of them together, not even thinking what this special occasion could be. Minutes later, the boyfriend got on his knees and started proposing! I realized what was happening and went double time with his camera. It all happened so fast, but I’m glad I followed my intuition to take their photo. What a special occasion to be a part of!
Kupu Kupu Barong is perfect for anyone looking for some rest and relaxation in a secluded, beautiful setting. A great choice for couples looking for a romantic getaway with their über private villas, relaxing massages and sunset views, I also saw groups of families, friends and solo travelers. With their range of room choices (villas, pool or jungle view rooms), it’s fit for a range of audiences, and it never felt crowded. A lovely choice for our girls’ getaway, I felt relaxed, recharged and very pampered by the time we had to sadly say goodbye.
